The Veterinary Residues Committee’s (VRC) 2008 Annual Report on the surveillance of veterinary residues in food in the UK published.
The VRC is an independent advisory committee overseeing UK surveillance of residues of veterinary medicines in UK-produced and imported foods. It advises the chief executives of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) and the Food Standards Agency on the committee's work and the importance of its results.
A couple of results were of particular interest:
- Antimicrobials residues were detected in 3 of 207 (1.45%) samples of Eggs (Free-Range) tested.
- Nicarbazin residues were detected in 53 of 598 (8.9%) samples of Broiler liver tested.
