Vietnam's Health Ministry confirmed that a 40-year-old man from northern Hai Duong province died on February 13, from avian influenza, after four days of treatment in Hanoi.
The man slaughtered two dead chickens for meal before exhibiting avian influenza symptoms early this month. He was admitted to the city-based Tropical Diseases Hospital on February 8.
The Health Ministry said tests confirmed the man from the northern province of Hai Duong, 50 km (31 miles) southeast of Hanoi, had the H5N1 strain of the virus.
The Health Ministry also confirmed another 27-year-old man had been infected by the H5N1 virus and was now in critical condition.
