Egypt has joined the list of countries with cases of avian influenza. Officials at the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) have confirmed the H5N1 strain of avian influenza has been found in dead birds in Egypt. The WHO regional advisor for emerging diseases said the disease had been found in three areas of the country. Other sources identify Giza (flocks kept in backyard gardens and rooftop coops) , just across the Nile from Cairo, and the southern cities of Minya and Qena.
