The avian influenza virus is spreading to new areas in the central parts of South Korea.
An additional outbreak of H5N6 avian influenza was confirmed at a poultry farm in Yangju, Gyeonggi province.
Authorities said the new outbreak were caused by the same virus that was reported at two poultry farms each in Chungbuk and Jeonnam.
As a result, South Korea confirmed the virus outbreak in three regions of Yangju in Gyeonggi-do Province, Eumseong County in Chuncheongbuk-do Province and Haenam in Jeollanam-do Province this year.
Gyeonggi-do provincial government said over 15,000 birds had been culled to prevent the spread of the virus after a report of suspected deaths of 240 chickens at a poultry farm in Yangju.
