Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) of the strain H5N8 has been confirmed in turkeys (more than 5,000 birds) on a poultry farm near Louth in Lincolnshire. All birds at the premises have died or will be humanely culled to limit the risk of disease spread. 
It is the first confirmed case in Britain of the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain.
The most recent previous case of avian influenza confirmed in the UK was at a poultry farm in Dunfermline on 11 January 2016.
