• Dr. Armin Elbers is a distinguished epidemiologist and senior researcher at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (part of Wageningen University & Research) in the Netherlands. His professional focus lies in the surveillance, modelling, and control of notifiable animal diseases - such as avian influenza, classical swine fever, bluetongue, and foot‑and‑mouth disease - as well as the development of early‑detection systems and risk analyses that inform veterinary public‑health authorities.
  • He holds the title dr.ir. - an engineering doctorate - alongside MSc degrees, and has authored nearly 300 peer-reviewed publications, with over 8,000 citations. 
  • Before joining Wageningen Bioveterinary Research, Elbers spent around 17 years (1986–2003) in the animal‑health industry, working with Animal Health Service Ltd. He is actively involved in advisory roles and scientific peer review, including reviewing papers for reputed journals as recently as 2023–24.
