Fungi and molds contain cellulose during the different stages of the life cycle. Aspergillosis as well as other fungi can be demonstrated by fluorescent staining using cellulose fluorescence brighteners such as Fungiqual or Calcofluor (Cyanamid.Co.) and examination under a bright - field ultraviolet fluorescent microscope. The specificity of these fluorescent brighteners to detect cellulose in the fungi may help in the determination of the prescence of fungi in the tissues or isolates.
