The Israeli parliament cries foul on battery eggs

Farmers will no longer be able to molt their hens by starvation in order to increase egg output.
The cabinet, approved a prohibition of this practice, which will go into effect on January 1, 2013. In addition, the cabinet now requires that all battery cage will be enriched with a minimum of 750 sq.cm./hen, meeting the European standards for minimum cage size, a measure to be instituted within seven years.
