On 29 December, Poland reported suspicion of disease in turkeys on a poultry farm in Boguszyce, Goleniowski district (Zachodniopomorskie region). Initial laboratory tests were weakly positive to avian influenza. Birds were culled on the 4 January 2009 (19,335 turkeys). Epidemiological evidence showed link to a hatchery in Germany, in an affected region. Turkeys has been transported to Poland on 11/12/2008 from Boesel, Germany (region affected with LPAI H5N3). Positive test results for LPAI H5 were obtained.
