14 February 2006

Experts confirmed the presence of the H5N1 avian influenza strain in two dead swans in Austria. The Austrian Health Ministry said it had taken preventive measures, including the creation of a restricted zone within a 3-kilometer (2-mile) radius of where the dead swans were found, near Graz in the Styria region bordering Slovenia. In this area, all poultry trade has been banned for at least 30 days.
