Two cats die after drinking recalled raw milk

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating two potential cases of H5 bird flu in cats that consumed recalled raw milk from Raw Farm, LLC.
These indoor cats drank raw milk associated with a recall of raw milk and cream products before showing symptoms such as loss of appetite, fever, and neurological signs. The cats deteriorated rapidly and ultimately died, subsequently testing positive for Influenza A, which is rare in felines. Public Health is treating these cases as suspected H5 bird flu infections and is conducting confirmatory testing. Individuals who had direct contact with the infected cats are being monitored for symptoms and have been offered antiviral prophylaxis. Los Angeles County health officials are examining the two suspected bird flu cases in cats that fell ill and died after ingesting raw milk from a batch recalled due to the detection of the H5N1 virus. This incident marks another case in California linking unpasteurized dairy products to potential bird flu infections.
