Livestock officials in western Thailand are planning to kill a flock of more than 1,000 ibises, wild long-billed wading birds found mainly in tropical regions, in their latest bid to contain the spread of avian influenza.
The culling will be carried out despite the beneficial role the birds play in rice farming by eating snails which destroy rice crops (The Straits Times).
