Riboflavin deficiency

Description: Peripheral nerve. Schwann cell hypertrophy and hyperplasia with nerve fiber separation and interstitial edema. Swollen, vacuolated myelin sheaths with minor axonal swelling and degeneration. Mild perivascular lymphocytic infiltration.  
Morphologic Diagnosis: Degenerative peripheral neuropathy
Disease Diagnosis: Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) deficiency  
Differential Diagnosis: Chronic Thiamine deficiency (milder changes), Marek’s Disease neuritis (type B), Layer Peripheral neuropathy, Heavy metal intoxication (lead, mercury). Dr Z. Raviv
