FSIS
USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a new proposed rule that would require its regulated industry to promptly notify FSIS if any unsafe, unwholesome or misbranded meat or poultry product has entered commerce. Also, a company would have to prepare and maintain up-to-date procedures for the eventual recall of its meat and poultry products. Further, a company would have to document each reassessment of the plant’s process control plans or HACCP plans.
The proposed rule, published in the March 25 Federal Register, would implement a provision of the 2008 Farm Bill and is a priority for the Food Safety Working Group.
