Poland: Poultry industry unprepared for battery cage ban

18.09.2010

A DG SANCO  report on animal welfare in Poland warns of the apparent lack of preparedness for the ban on conventional battery cages for egg production for 2012.
MEPs have once again rejected a call from Poland for a five-year delay to the implementation of an EU-wide ban on battery hen cages.
At its first meeting after the summer recess, the European Parliament's agriculture committee on Monday agreed that delaying the introduction of the ban beyond 2012 would be a major step backwards in EU animal welfare policy.
