Drugmaker Eli Lilly plans to buy animal health business of Janssen Pharmaceutica.
Eli Lilly & Co's animal health division Elanco has made an irrevocable offer to acquire Belgium-based Janssen Animal Health.
The two companies said they had notified the appropriate European works councils of their intentions.
Janssen's animal health business, headquartered in Beerse, Belgium, has a European focus with product emphases on companion animals and livestock.
The acquisition would expand Elanco's European presence, diversify its platform in livestock and poultry medicines with new poultry and swine products and strengthen its growing portfolio in companion animal medicines.
Upon closing, all Janssen animal health employees would become Elanco employees, the announcement said. No manufacturing plants would be included in the transaction.
