An outbreak of H5N1 was detected in wild birds in Hainan Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Qinghai Province on 17 May. Reportedly, on 8 May, 121 wild birds were found dead of unknown disease. The National Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza confirmed on 17 May that the birds cause of death was H5N1. Following the outbreak, related departments have disinfected the affected areas, and destroyed the 121 wild birds and 600 household birds within the surrounding area. No outbreak has been detected in domestic fowl so far.
