Chile: H1N1 in a Turkey farm

Two Chilean poultry farms are under quarantine after swine influenza was detected in turkeys, the first case of the virus found in birds. Sopraval SA, the Santiago-based producer of poultry, beef and pork products, said agricultural authorities identified the virus, also known as H1N1, in turkeys on two of the company’s farms.
Outbreak no. 1 is composed of 5 breeding premises. The outbreak started in premises no. 1 and through horizontal transmission, it reached 3 other premises. In the outbreak no. 2 of 5 existing sectors were affected.
