Zoetis announced the reintroduction of Zoamix® (zoalene=dinitolmide [DOT]), a chemical anticoccidial for the prevention and control of coccidiosis in broilers and turkeys, in the US. Zoamix can be used with no withdrawal, it allows immunity to develop through trickle immunity. Zoalene is most efficacious against E. tenella and E. necatrix less so against other species.
Because it is a synthetic compound, Zoamix is compatible with antibiotic-free or conventional production systems.
Formerly produced by Alpharma, Zoamix was used by the U.S. broiler and turkey industries for more than four decades before leaving the market in 2005 due to shortage of a key ingredient.
