Germany has discovered a case of the highly pathogenic H5N8 strain of avian influenza in a wild duck. The virus was found in a mallard duck in Osterwald in Bentheim in the northern state of Lower Saxony. An outbreak of H5N8 bird flu was also reported in wild swans in Germany in August.
Bulgaria has reported two outbreaks of the highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza. One outbreak occurred on a farm in the village of Stefanovo in the northeastern region of Dobric. The other outbreak was discovered in a backyard in Uzundzhovo in the southern region of Haskovo.
Italy, during the first three weeks of October Italy has reported at least 15 outbreaks of HPAI H5N8 or HPAI H5, along with several other detections in wild birds.
Russia: The Rostov region of western Russia has reported outbreaks of H5.
