A suspected highly pathogenic variant of the H5N6 avian influenza was discovered at the farm in Biddinghuizen, about 70 kilometers (45 miles) east of Amsterdam.
All 16,000 ducks (both 4 week old and 4 day old) at the farm will be culled.
The H5 is related to the highly pathogenic H5N8 virus that was found in the Netherlands in 2016.
The N6 is related to low-pathogenic viruses previously found in wild birds in Europe.
