Mexico: 1.2 million birds slaughtered due to avian influenza

More than a million chickens infected with avian influenza were slaughtered.

Investigators detected the H7N3 virus in 18 farms in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato.

More than 2.1 million chickens had been killed -- including 519,000 commercial layers, 722,265 breeders and 900,000 broilers.

1.9 million birds were vaccinated since the outbreak began earlier this month.
