A girl, 7 years old, in the northern Chinese capital of Beijing had tested positive for H7N9 avian influenza, in the first reported case outside the region surrounding the eastern city of Shanghai.
The girl is being treated in the Beijing Ditan Hospital, Beijing, capital of China. The child is in stable condition. Two people who have had close contact with the child have not shown any flu symptoms, and the girl's parents were engaged in live poultry trading in a township of Shunyi District in Beijing's northeastern suburbs.

So far 11 people have died of the H7N9 avian influenza strain since it was confirmed in humans for the first time last month, with 49 infections in all having been reported to date.
