Eggs likely source of Australia salmonella outbreak
11.01.2012
Eggs are the suspected source of a salmonella outbreak at a Ballarat pizzeria that left at least 19 people sick, and possibly one death (a 82-year-old man).
The salmonella outbreak has been traced to undercooked pizzas containing egg.
The Department of Health says Rizzo's Pizza was closed for one week after investigators found a cluster of salmonella cases across Ballarat dating back to the week before Christmas. The Department spokesman said eggs were the likely cause of the outbreak, although it was unclear whether the outbreak was related to their storage or food handling.
