The Department of Agriculture has confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza in a small flock of pheasants near Clonakilty, Co Cork.
Preliminary results show the virus is low pathogenic H5N1 strain of the with further tests being carried out.
As a purely precautionary measure, the 100 birds on the affected premises are being slaughtered and all necessary biosecurity measures have been put in place.
Restrictions have now been placed around two gun clubs in Cork, following the outbreak of avian influenza.
A one kilometre restriction zones have been established in gun clubs in Barryroe near Clonakilty where the infection was first discovered.
The pheasants in Barryroe came from the same batch as those in Clonakilty.
