34,000 heads of poultry have been culled and 2 people have died as the H5N1 avian influenza has spread to 21 districts in 11 provinces and cities across the country. These are Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Soc Trang and Kien Gian.

At yesterday’s meeting to review the disease situation, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, head of the committee, requested local authorities nationwide to take all possible measures to control, prevent and drive back the disease, with vaccination of poultry being the most important priority.

The minister asked the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the import of 50 million doses of H5N1-Re 5 vaccine as soon as possible.
