Avian influenza has killed its 19th Indonesian human victim, a 23-year-old man, according to tests by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
That brought the total number of confirmed Indonesian human cases of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza to 27. Eight of those who have had the disease have survived.
Of Indonesia's confirmed fatalities, eight have been in 2006, making Indonesia the country with the most avian influenza deaths so far this year.
The latest confirmed victim died on February 10 in a Jakarta hospital. He had worked at a traditional market transporting chicken eggs.
