Some of the infected chickens had been bought from a market held in Chelford that was associated with a recent avian influenza outbreak in Conwy, North Wales.
All the farm's birds, including peacocks, have been culled. Four people with influenza like symptoms have tested positive for the virus - two from Wales and two from North West England. Three of these people are known to have had direct contact with infected birds. The route of infection for the fourth person is not known and therefore as a precautionary measure, Oseltamivir has been offered to all close contacts of cases, and to those entering suspected premises.
