Russia: H5N1 in domestic birds

Russia has recorded its first cases this year of the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of avian influenza in dead domestic birds. The virus was detected in dead birds found in three domestic yards (Borodinskaya, Upornaya and Labinsk) in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia. According to the OIE report vaccination is permitted and was applied as response to these outbreaks.
