Nigeria reports first human death from avian infuenza

Health officials reported Nigeria's first cases of avian influenza in humans on Wednesday, saying one woman had died and a family member had been infected but was responding to treatment.
The victim, a 22-year old woman in Lagos, died on 16 January 2007, the mother of the 22-year-old died on 4 January with similar symptoms.
Nigeria was the first African nation to report H5N1 avian influenza (08/02/06).
