The H5N1 strain of avian influenza, was found among birds kept in Brandenburg outside Berlin. Eleven birds (backyard flock with laying hens for own consumption) kept in a coop were killed and a security zone of three kilometers was put in place. The birds were kept with nine other chickens in the Oberhavel region, northwest of Berlin.
