France reports another newcastle disease outbreak

The outbreak started on 27 December at a farm fattening pigeons at Langoat, Tréguier, CÔTES-D'ARMOR. No epidemiological link with the previous outbreak in Morbihan department. All the birds in the holding were destroyed as a pre-emptive measure on 30 December 2010. Cleaning and disinfection operations were carried out on 30 December 2010. A 3-km protection zone and a 10-km surveillance zone were set up around the infected holding. Poultry farms in these zones are subject to movement restrictions.

Chronology

•27/12/2010 : clinical suspicion (digestive and nervous signs, mortality~ 630 pigeons dead or killed during the clinical period)

•30/12/2010 : preventive culling of the pigeons on site (destruction in an incineration plant ) (~ 12,900 pigeons culled)

•30/12/2010 : preliminary cleansing and disinfection

•03/01/2010 : confirmation of the infection by the national reference laboratory(aPMV1, pigeon type)

•20/01/2011 : future estimated date of achievement of cleansing and disinfection operations
