South Korea confirmed an additional case of avian influenza at a farm near Seoul.
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said the new case of the H5N1 virus was confirmed at the chicken farm in Yeoju, about 100 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
About 30,000 chickens on the farm have been culled. 5.5 million birds have been culled due to H5N1 avian influenza, which began in December last year.
Avian influenza has returned to Indonesia. Several regions have recently reported outbreaks. Hundreds of chicken suddenly died in Deli Serdang regency in North Sumatra, Surakarta, Central Java and Garut regency, West Java. A mass culling of infected fowl and the restriction of poultry distribution were ordered in Deli Serdang.
Vietnam, avian influenza has been discovered in five more provinces in Vietnam.
The cases were found in northern Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Lang Son, Nam Dinh provinces and Central Highland Kon Tum province.
The H5N1 virus is considered endemic in both Indonesia and Vietnam.
Bangladesh said the H5N1 virus hit 22 more poultry farms in five different states, according to a report to the OIE. Most of the outbreaks occurred on farms in Dhaka state, but H5N1 was also detected in farm flocks in Khulna, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chittagong states. The disease killed 11,438 birds, and 78,840 more were culled during outbreak response activities.
