Japan: second case of avian influenza in Aichi

16.02.2011

Chickens raised at a poultry farm in Shinshiro in Aichi Prefecture were confirmed infected with H5 avian influenza, marking the second outbreak of the disease in the prefecture this winter.
The prefectural government started culling the approximately 17,500 chickens at the farm and banned transportation of approximately 900,000 chickens at 18 farms within a radius of 10 kilometers.
The first case of avian infuenza in Aichi Prefecture this winter was discovered in the neighboring city of Toyohashi in January.
