An outbreak of H7 LPAI was recorded in Lombardy region. LPAI H5 was confirmes in Veneto. These regions are densely populated poultry areas.
On January 7, a Type A, sub-type H7 LPAI virus in a fecal pool collected from ducks was confirmed by RT-PCR during the monitoring activity of commercial holdings trading at markets and fairs. Birds were reared in a dealer farm located in the municipality of Carpenedolo (Brescia province –Lombardy region).
The infected premise was positive (virological test on tracheal swabs) also in April 2010. Previous virological tests (27 Dec 2011) gave negative results.
742 different birds were present in the farm. All birds were culled.
Tracing: Geese and chickens were introduced from a farm located in Barbariga municipality (Brescia province) on 31 December 2010.
This premise and 8 related farms were subjected to further surveillance. No evidence of infection was detected.
On February 14, Pre-moving sampling, performed according to the monitoring plan for commercial holdings trading at markets and fairs, detected a serological positivity for Influenza Virus sub-type H5 in a rural hobby farm located in Bovolone (Verona Province –Veneto region). Further investigation confirmed the positive result by serological testing, whereas the virological assays gave negative results.A total of 162 different birds were present in the farm. All infected permises were depopulated.
