This surveillance contribute to demonstration of disease free status of country/region/compartment from Notifiable AI and to detect sub-clinical infections of high-pathogenicity Avian Influenza (Ducks, Geese, Game birds). In 2010 29,484 holdings were sampled by 26 Member States (MS).
Results:
•H5 positive holdings -50 (48 by serology) : Breeder ducks: 22 (9.4%) in FR and UK; Farmed game birds: 12 (0.65%) in DK, FR, SE and UK; Breeder geese: 8 (6.2%) in FR and PL; Fattening ducks: 4 (0.45%) in BE and FR; Others: 2 (0.09%) in IT; Backyard flocks: 1 (0.01%) in IT; Fattening geese: 1 (0.3%) in RO; Laying hens: 1 (0.02%) in IT;
•H7 positive holdings -14 (11 by serology): Farmed Game Birds: 4 (0.22%) in DK; Backyard flocks: 3 (0.04%) in IT; Laying hens: 3 (0.06%) in IT and NL; Others: 3 (0.13%) in IT; Free range laying hens: 1 (0.06%) in NL.
Positive holdings were found in 10 MS. 50 holdings positive with for H5 in 7 MS; 14 positive for H7 in 3 MS. 16 holdings were positive for subtypes other than H5 and H7.
1 bird from 1 MS was positive for H5N1 HPAI, detected in a common buzzard (Buteo buteo) in Bulgaria in March. It was detected through passive surveillance of wild birds found dead. The virus was classified as clade 2.3.2
