A commercial tom turkey flock, in Merced County, State of California, exhibited coughing with a slight increase in mortality. Samples were submitted for laboratory testing and were confirmed positive for influenza A virus H7N3 LPAI.
The affected farm involved 62,000 birds aged 17-weeks spread among 14 houses.
Hong Kong has banned the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the county with immediate effect. About 267 000 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 530 million poultry eggs were imported into Hong Kong from the US last year.
