Avian influenza confirmed in wild Fraser Valley duck

26.11.2015

A case of the avian influenza virus H5N2 has been confirmed in the Fraser Valley, after a duck was shot by a hunter  in Abbotsford  earlier this week or on the weekend. The most serious outbreak of avian flu in Canada took place in the Fraser Valley in 2004 when a highly pathogenic H7 strain led to the slaughter of 17 million farm birds.
