Iowa: Additional case of avian influenza surfaces in Sioux County

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is responding to a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Sioux County

Sioux 18 – Flock that has a variety species and an estimated 3,800 birds that has experienced increased mortality. Initial testing showed it positive for H5 avian influenza. 
It is the 73rd case of avian influenza in Iowa. The outbreak has cost the state more than 29 million birds including 24 million egg-laying chickens and 3.8 million pullets, young chickens raised to be egg layers. The state also has lost 1.2 million turkeys.
