Iowa: 4 more cases of HPAI

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is responding to 4 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Adair, Webster, Wright  and Hamilton counties. With the new announcements, Iowa now has 68 cases of the disease in the state. 

Adair 1 – Commercial laying operation with an estimated 975,000 birds that has experienced increased mortality. Initial testing showed it positive for H5 avian influenza. Additional confirmatory testing is pending from the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames.

Webster 1 – Commercial laying operation with an estimated 160,000 birds that has experienced increased mortality. Initial testing showed it positive for H5 avian influenza. Additional confirmatory testing is pending from the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames.

Wright 4 – Commercial laying operation with an estimated 1 million birds that has experienced increased mortality. Initial testing showed it positive for H5 avian influenza. Additional confirmatory testing is pending from the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames.

Hamilton 1 – Turkey farm with an estimated 17,000 birds that has experienced increased mortality. Initial testing showed it positive for H5 avian influenza. Additional confirmatory testing is pending from the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) in Ames.
