Avian influenza detected at second Ontario farm

19.04.2015

Avian influenza has been detected at a second farm in southwestern Ontario, a broiler breeder farm (27,000 birds) prompting food safety officials to place it in quarantine.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says preliminary testing has confirmed the presence of avian influenza H5 at the chicken farm in Oxford County.
Initial tests for the disease were conducted on April 17, 2015 at the Animal Health Laboratory at the University of Guelph, after the chicken farm experienced sudden deaths of birds over several days.
