USDA awarded contracts to two companies to manufacture avian influenza vaccine for poultry

The two contracted firms are Harrisvaccines, and Ceva.The total amount of the award is $6 million, and fulfillment will span two years. Terms of the contract show the USDA has requested Harrisvaccines to create a total of 48 million doses of the Avian Influenza H5 vaccine, 25 million of which are to be produced in the first 45 days of the two year contract. France-based Ceva Corp. also was awarded a $6 million contract to manufacture its vaccine.
In addition, the companies are required to test the vaccines regularly for potency, as well as deliver finished vaccines anywhere in the United States within 10 days of a request for them from the National Veterinary Stockpile.
