The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) has been notified by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of a confirmed human case of avian influenza A(H5N6) today (July 11) affecting a 37-year-old woman in Yunnan province. This is the fourth fourth human H5N6 avian influenza infection in China.
H5N6 was detected for the first time in a human in May 2014, and a spate of H5N6 outbreaks in poultry over the past year have been reported in China, as well as in Laos and Vietnam.
