Nigeria has reported continuing outbreaks of avian influenza attributed to H5N1. Approximately 160 farms have been affected since January 2015 requiring culling of 400,000 birds in Plateau State. Since January, 55 outbreaks have been officially reported to the OIE with 14 in the south, 41 in the north central region including Kano, Plateau and Bauchi States. These outbreaks are probably related to mortality reported in Niger and in Burkina Faso as noted above.
