A case of avian influenza has been confirmed on a Kandiyohi County turkey farm. The United States Department of Agriculture today confirmed the detection of the highly-pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial (molting breeder replacement) turkey operation with approximately 26,000 birds on the premises. According to a press release, a third case was confirmed in Stearns County, which is a commercial turkey operation with approximately 76,000 birds on the premises. This flock was being sampled for avian influenza every day because it lies within the previously-established control area in Stearns County. Today’s confirmed cases bring the total number of avian influenza to seven in Minnesota. Both new sites have been placed under quarantine by the Board of Animal Health.
