H5N2 Avian Influenza in Jefferson County, Wisconsin

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial layer flock in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. The flock of 200,000 chickens (egg type layers) is located within the Mississippi flyway. this is the first case of H5N2 in commercial chickens.
Wisconsin is ranked among the top 20 states in broiler production and egg production. The state has 19,173 registered poultry premises supporting roughly 5.4 million egg-laying hens.
